Canadian Railroads > An afternoon at Exporail

As I was off yesterday for St-Jean Baptiste day here in Quebec, I headed to Exporail with my wife in the afternoon. It was a beautiful day and the construction on the Mercier bridge (one lane each way for the next 8 weeks) only delayed me a few minutes thankfully. Here are some of the pictures I took.

1-Two Budd RDC's (CP 9069 & CP 9250) are near Hays Station. At left is CP 4563 (MLW M630) and at right Is CN 30 (GE 70 tonner).

Great imagaes Michael. One question...my wife would like to know if there are any fireworks over a bridge there in Quebec, celebrating the holiday. Quebec is a lot closer than going back to Florence, Italy for St. John the Baptist holy day and we really liked Quebec when there a couple of years ago. Florence, Italy ain't too shabby either BTW.

Thanks. I would imagine there are fireworks in Montreal near the Jacques-Cartier bridge, but I can't say for sure.

Montreal has a fireworks festival/competition every year.  La Ronde is the launching area.  A GOOGLE search should turn up dates and other info.

Did you run into "arwye"?  He was just there and I thought he said he went out to Delson on the same day.

Great shots! But those RDCs in the first photo seem to be missing something....that signature CPR oscillating light usually found on most units.

Hope to make it to Exporail this summer. Is AMT operating any weekend specials to the site this summer?

No, unfortunately they have not run in 3-4 years. The AMT Candiac line does not run on weekends, BUT it is convenient to get there by train on weekdays.

Only one round trip per day is possible to visit. Otherwise, a quite difficult bus schelp.

Remember the Museum is in St. Constant, not Delson.

The oscillating lights were not on all of CP's RDC.  They were only used on the leading car, perhaps the trailing car depending on the time at terminal(s) to strart the return trip.  They were removable (the big upside down type U were the brackets).  Used to love seeing them ply down the Lakeshore with the lights ablaze.

According to google maps, the museum grounds are in both municipalities.

Since they added mid-day trips a few years back, the weekday schedule is quite convenient for visiting Exporail. AMT 73 leaves downtown Montreal at 0935 and arrives at St-Constant station at 1004. You then have a bit over three hours until you can catch the last train that heads back to Montreal (don't miss it!) which arrives at St-Constant at 1328 (AMT 90). I've done this trip (from Montreal West and back) a couple of times.

Thanks.....I realize that.

On the Dominion Atlantic (CP subsidiary).....even after VIA took over the oscillating light was still used. On VIA’s other RDCs out of Halifax (on CN) it wasn’t used.

The official address of EXPORAIL is in St. Constant FYI.

Perhaps that's where Canada Post thinks they're at but according to the map....all those great pictures above at the Hays Building and Barrington Station are in Delson. Also ---->>

Don't ever kid yourself about Canada Post and how it chooses where you live.
The lady of my life has lived in this house for 50 years. It was in the Township of Flamborough, but has a Waterdown telephone number. It is technically in the City of Hamilton, but we have a Dundas address.  Sandra refers to it as "The Bermuda Triangle of Canada Post."
The official maps may say one thing, but if Canada Post decides something else, you better use the address they give you ... or you won't get any mail!
