Canadian Railroads > Update #3 from Turcot West demolitionDate: 05/04/16 03:36 Update #3 from Turcot West demolition Author: kgmontreal The removal of the "tunnel" at Turcot West (Montreal) is proceeding well. Four slices of the tunnel have been moved away from the track. These photos were taken Monday May 2 and show the SPMT platforms having dropped a slice and staged to return for another. For or five more slices need to moved.
For background on what is happening and why, see: http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?15,4015961 http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?15,4017184 KG Date: 05/04/16 04:35 Re: Update #3 from Turcot West demolition Author: Ray_Murphy The way they are storing them, I wonder if they are planning on re-using these slices.

My feeling is that they cannot begin demolition over on the gravel pad until all slices are moved. The SPMT platforms require a smooth flat surface to drive on. Beginning demolition would damage the surface of the gravel pad and risk getting the SPMTs hung up. When the slices are all moved I predict that the destruction will begin. Stand back. In the first and second shots, VIA 669 approaches and then exits what is left of the tunnel.
