Shooting from an endangered overpass
Author: Mberry

This past Friday while in the Toronto area, I was able to pay what should prove to be my last visit to a well-known railfanning spot. That spot is the Hopkins avenue overpass which goes over the GO Sub and CN's Kingston sub in Whitby, Ontario. With a GO Transit facility being built on both sides of the street, it will soon be closed, and a new road with an underpass (Blair street) opening any day now.

1-A fairly new cab car (GOT 304) leads a westbound GO Transit train, with GOT 616 pushing.

2-CN 2560, CN 2301 & CN 2895 lead CN 148 eastwards.

3-GOT 238 leads a westbound at left while GOT 249 brings up the rear of an eastbound at right. Further to the right CN 148 heads east, while the headlight of its counterpart (CN 149) is barely visible at far left.

4-CN 149 has three EMD's, with SD75I's CN 5719 & CN 5784 sandwiching SD70 IC 1026.

5-GOT 640 pushes a 12-car westbound.

Interesting to see the new Cab Car.
The view will not be the same from the underpass...
