Canadian Railroads > MLW Monday, "battered & bruised"

Images of the BCR 606 & 715 that were damaged in a head on collision June 18, 1984.  The 606 was eventually "retired" account the damage, 715 was repaired and returned to service. We had these hulks on our train and had to stop periodically for a Carman to check the tie down cables etc.  Doug

Wasn't that the wreck that destroyed SD40-2s 755 and 760 also?

Yes, the 755 & 760 were used for parts at GMDL for replacement locos.  The collision was between the northbound "James Switcher"  and a southbound work train, this happened just north of Fraserview and fortunately more or less on a 20 mph permanent slow order. A mile or so north it would have been on 40 mph track with devastating results. I have some slides from the wreck site, taken a few hours afterwards.  Doug

606 was rebuilt using the long hood from a retired RS-10

Thanks M420 for the correction. My reference was wrong and the 606 was returned to service. Prior to this accident it was shown in the TT as Dynamic Brake equipped, after the rebuild there was no Dynamic Brake on the 606 although all the other RS18's show Dynamic Brake as did the 606 in previous time tables.  thanks,  Doug

Thanks for the link! I've never seen those phtos before.

Of course, the railway sent components from the -2's back to GMDD for use in two new replacement units. (766 and Locotrol equipped 767).

I took a shot of 755 in Prince George just about 10 days before the wreck.
