Canadian Railroads > Railfanning ManitobaDate: 08/16/16 15:42 Railfanning Manitoba Author: BNSF-6432 As mentioned we took our summer vacation somewhere different this year and went for Winnipeg, MB, a straight shot north up highway 75 and I29 from Tulsa, OK. Railfanning was limited as we did more exploring than anything being rather far from a mainline most of the time. However we were able to spend a day in Portage la Prairie. We arrived August 4th and left the 10th.
1) Our first find was this ex Trunk GP on the BTR in Manitou, MB 2&3) The first train was a luck of the draw catch as we found a CEMR train moving west beside highway 3 somewhere east of Brunkild i believe Date: 08/16/16 15:49 Re: Railfanning Manitoba Author: BNSF-6432 4) On Saturday the 6th we made our way to the Prairie Dog Central for what was suppose to be a steam run, but I can't complain with the green and gold GP running long hood forward
5) Back at their station the BNSF torpedo boat GP9 sits outside with.... 6) Prairie Dog #3 Former CP 4-4-0 getting some work done Date: 08/16/16 15:55 Re: Railfanning Manitoba Author: BNSF-6432 7) On Monday the 8th we made it to Portage la Prairie and started off with an eastbound CP stack train
8) Afterwards CP 2207 comes in to do some switching as a runner and car patiently waits 9) Two SD70s on the CN pull an eastbound freight by the platform working around some Monday afternoon maintenance Date: 08/16/16 16:00 Re: Railfanning Manitoba Author: BNSF-6432 10) #1 pulls into the station for a small pick up
11) #1 gets its baggage loaded up as the people board the train 12) Alex awaits to photograph another eastbound CP train, this time grain Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 08/16/16 16:18 by BNSF-6432. Date: 08/16/16 16:04 Re: Railfanning Manitoba Author: BNSF-6432 13) The eastbound passes through town with one unit leading
14) 2 older GEs lead a eastbound CN freight beside the walking trail 15) The CP local later returns with the GP20C Date: 08/16/16 16:08 Re: Railfanning Manitoba Author: BNSF-6432 16&17) A T4 leads another eastbound by the maintenance shack and the VIA station
18) Finally we get a westbound freight but is blocked by a cloud Date: 08/16/16 16:13 Re: Railfanning Manitoba Author: BNSF-6432 19) West of Portage we found a SD40 for CWB parked at a grain elevator
20) Over in Holland we encountered some ties being removed from a former CP line 21) The next day we found a Cargill SD38? in Elm Creek on the 9th Date: 08/16/16 16:17 Re: Railfanning Manitoba Author: BNSF-6432 22&23) Also on the 9th we encountered a light set of power west of Elm Creek along highway 2 to grab some cars.

And that GP9 looks really sharp in that BNSF scheme. Other than SD9s, not too many high-hood units made it into BNSF orange and green paint. Rich Date: 08/18/16 16:17 Re: Railfanning Manitoba Author: The_Chief_Way yes, love that Geep. Is that the ex-Midland of Manitoba unit?
