Last week, Lyman Morrison passed away in Penticton BC.

He was the last operator and station agent employed on the Kettle Valley route of the CPR, and finished out his career in the station in Penticton.

He had worked many other train order stations on the Kettle Valley Division, and some on the Kootenay Division.

Unlike the running trades (operating employees) of the Kettle Valley Division whose seniority for many years was restricted to the Kettle Valley Division, telegraph operators could bid for work outside their Division during times they were laid off.

Lyman was an avid motion picture amateur cameraman, with images shot on 8mm film starting in the early 1950's  Having an employee pass, he rode many trains that others had little access or knowledge of. He also filmed the sternwheeler steamships used on the Arrow and Kootenay Lakes.

He remained an active vidoegrapher past the year 2000.

He shared his movies and videos with anyone who cared to see them, and some have been converted to digital format.

An enthusiastic and friendly person to the end, his presence will be missed and so will his knowledge of Kettle Valley Railway history.
