CP then NS power on CN 528 this weekend
Author: Mberry

Up until this past spring CN 528 (a run-through train that becomes CP 930 upon interchange to CP at Rouses Point, NY and NS 30T when on NS rails) generally left Montreal in the middle of the night, but recently it generally follows AMTK 68 down the CN Rouses Point Sub, leaving Montreal late in the morning. I was able to shoot both editions of it this weekend.

1-A single CP ES44AC (CP 8753) is enough power for Saturday's edition, seen passing through the St-Henri neighbourhood of Montreal with a short train not too long after potash train CN B730 passed (photos to follow in a future post). Note that it has one improvised numberboard. While this train normally features NS power, CP power is seen on this train now and again (in fact CP power predominated during the winter of 2016).

2-Today's edition of CN 528 is exiting Taschereau Yard with a more substantial 52 cars and a pair of ES44DC's (NS 7687 & NS 7506) as it crosses from the north track to the freight track on CN's Montreal Sub. The CN crew will bring the train to Rouses Point and bring CN 529 back later in the day.

St. Henri sure looks like a railfan-friendly neighbourhood; very nice shot.
