Can't Get This Shot Any Longer
Author: cn6218

Truro, NS. March 17, 1997.

For a few years the two Oceans, VIA 14 and 15 would regularly meet on the double track around Truro, Nova Scotia. Occasionally, they would even both be stopped at the station at the same time. No doubt 14 (on the left) will be taken care of first and depart for Halifax before any passengers are allowed on or off 15, on the right.

Today, with only 3 times a week service, trains rarely ever meet in daylight*, and they can't at the Truro station, because the track 14 is on was removed back in the mid 2000s. In the background is the Emerson Club for CN pensioners, sitting in what little was left of the yard in 1997. It was torn down earlier this year. The only reminder of its existence is the that the switch at mile 63.84, which Yoho Park is standing on, is known to the local crews as the "Emerson Switch".

*There should be some daylight meets between passenger trains this holiday season when VIA runs some extra Budd equipped Oceans. Last year meets happened at Oxford Jct. and Amherst, but they certainly won't be at Truro.
