Canadian Railroads > A cruise ship in the backgroundDate: 07/06/18 06:06 A cruise ship in the background Author: Mberry Cruise ship AIDAvita is docked in the Port of Montreal yesterday afternoon as GP9's CN 7054 & CN 4115 pull some intermodal traffic and baretables destined for track 29 over the Lachine Canal on a sweltering day.

It's a pity the QM2 can't get as far upstream as Montreal. Getting from Toronto to Québec City by rail to board that ship is not convenient. When we took transatlantic ocean liners from Montreal I thought it would be great if there could be a "boat train" like there was in England and France. Admittedly the harbour tracks do not go right on to the Alexandra Quay but they go past the entrance. Date: 07/07/18 13:26 Re: A cruise ship in the background Author: Mberry DrawingroomA Wrote:

Not that I see it ever happening, but yes, it's a very short walk from the CN Wharf Spur to any of the quay's. Michael Date: 07/07/18 20:57 Re: A cruise ship in the background Author: eminence_grise CP's Place Viger station and hotel was right next to Montreal harbour. I always assumed it was built as a ship to train transfer point between CP's ocean liners and passenger trains.
