Before the rain
Author: Mberry

Montreal has had a very cold November, cold enough that the decent amount of snow we've received so far has stayed on the ground. With freezing rain followed by rain in the forecast tonight, it looks like the snow might not last. With that in mind I went to the St-Henri neighbourhood of Montreal late this morning to shoot CN 324, and shot three VIA Rail trains as a bonus.

1-VIA 910 leads Ottawa-Quebec City VIA 624 over the Lachine Canal.

2-A dozen minutes later CN 324 has GP40's in very different paint schemes for power as it crosses the Canal with 51 cars to interchange with the NECR at St. Albans, VT. Leading is ex-GO Transit GP40-2(W) CN 9673 in a faded zebra paint scheme, while trailing unit GP40-2L(W) CN 9590 is quite clean and sports CN's current website paint scheme.

3-Next was VIA 35 with wrapped VIA 6416 and unwrapped VIA 6414.

4-The final train was VIA 60, with VIA 6458 as power.

Hi Michael;

  Received my December issue of RAILPACE magazine today and saw your photo with the cruise ship in the background.  Ironically, friends of ours took that ship from Montreal to Miami recently and stopped off here in Charleston SC for a day.  We were invited on board to visit with them and were their guests for lunch.
