$450 slide on the auction site question
Author: SD45X

CP 1403 passenger train shot.
Curious what’s so special about it to warrant the fight. 7 bidders.
First-out seller.
Really nice shot.
Usually it has to be Milwaukee Road to warrant the money

Just took a look.

No idea why.  Will be interesting to see the final selling price!

Certain slides as of late go for absolutely INSANE money.   Only to never, ever be seen again.

Yeah, but since you already have the link it would be nice if you'd just post it...

I thought that we were not allowed to post links, especially from certain auction sites.

Seller also has a bunch of slides between $50.00 and $127.50. All with bids currently. Just type railroad slides in the search field. Once you have slides showing, sort by highest first, find the one at $456.00,  then you can see sellers other slides.

I recall from a few years back a discussion on this site about one "Cheese-Headed Dad" who was spending all kinds of serious money on ebay train slides. He disappeared back into the woodwork in short order.

I sell slides on EBAY and frankly have no idea what motivates purchasers sometime. Slides I thought were ORO ( old, rare, obscure ) sold for base price, others that I listed as afterthoughts sold for $70-80 each.
Some goes for subject matter, certain fallen flags are hot commodities, others won't sell for love or money regardless the quality and location of the slide. !!!!!

The image shows the "Canadian" behind CP 1403 somewhere in the Rockies in 1970. Note the lack of ditch lights on the locomotive, and the packaged mail boxcar behind the units.

From the morning sun , my guess is this is the eastbound train 2.

Note the switch and control location behind the train. I haven't figured out the location.

Nice scenery shot so there may be some interest outside of railfans.   I could guess it could be scanned  for a nice wall photo.

Possibly Leanchoil? Or was there a siding between Leanchoil and Ottertail in the era which has since been removed?

I think Leanchoil also, from the Trans-Canada highway bridge. The siding was lengthened in the mid-1970's

Exactly right! I also sell slides on eBay and ones I thought would be a good seller either don't get any bids or at best one. Other slides that are junk can go for 40-50$. One example of a Fallen Flag that does not sell are perfect shots of Penn Central F units - I listed them several times and never got a bid, yet cloudy day underexposed slides can go for 25$ or more! Go figure....
