Bloomberg: Via Rail to announce Siemens purchase today

Bloomberg is reporting that Via Rail will announce today it has agreed to purchase a large number of replacement rail cars from Siemens.  Via has a news conference scheduled for today.

(ME: If these cars are similar to the BrightLine cars used in Florida, they will be a delight.  Comfortable, airy, large windows, etc)

In other news, Bombardier appears to have the inside track on an expected 700 - 1,000 car order from NJ Transit.

NJT has about 950 push pull coaches, 440 of which are new MLV cars, and 130 MUs. The 700 - 1,000 new car rumor is ridiculous. It is more like 749, tops, over many years

What exactly are these cars replacing?  Seems most LRC's have been refurbished with new interiors. Perhaps the Budd coaches purchased from Amtrak and Renaissance coaches?  Any of what VIA is currently operation would be an upgrade of most Amtrak short distance equipment.

Everything used in the corridor at present: LRC, Renaissance and HEP cars.

Maybe "Delta Dick" Anderson at Amtrak can make a deal for some fairly new baggage cars and diners that he seems to want to sidetrack from his inventory.
