Frosty Via #2 in the Mountains

Via train #2 The Canadian is still a great ride. This past Friday I had the occasion to ride east from Vancouver that included through the first heavy snow storm of the season in the Rockies. The track was smooth, food delicious and staff friendly and helpful. Freight delays still exist but the padded schedule allowed us to keep a semblance of on time most of the way.
  1. Stopped for crew change and fuel at Kamloops with the heavy snow starting to fall.
  2. Brake test at the Park Car before departure into the storm.
  3. Earlier in the evening the second of three westbound freight trains passes #2 at Ashcroft.

4. Relentless snow overnight resulted in a frosty train at Jasper.
5. Trailing units were dusted even more with snow and ice.
6. The lead unit was cut off for use on the Rupert Rocket leaving extra frosted 6439 to lead east from Jasper.

7. Even Prestige Class in Glacier Park didn’t escape the weather.
8. A mountain miracle occurred east of Jasper when the clouds lifted.

9. A herd of big horn sheep keep a wary eye on the skyline car carrying camera toting tourists.
10. The sharp curve near the east gate of Jasper Park gave a last sunny look at a frosty #2.

Either of the first 2 could be a great Xmas card.

Best photos of the Canadian I've ever seen!  Two Prestige cars in Winter. Business must be good. Amtrak please note three locos. Plenty of power even if one craps out. But I don't understand the comment about smooth track? How can that be?  TO member "Streamliner" has told us several times he felt his life was in danger on such horrible rough track, especially when the train was "speeding."   Glad you had a great trip. Can't wait for my annual one in March.

Oops my bad. First Chateau isn't Prestige. Probably used for crew. Blue letter board give it away.

Nice series, well done. Your second shot is killer! Usually I'm ticked when personnel are in the photo, but his presence somehow makes it.

Bruce, Please!!  Just the mere mention of his TO name is sufficient to inspire him to come back here to spew his well known list of complaints, again.
