More Air Problems
Author: cn6218

Tuesday's 120 out of Moncton had air problems as well (see post below), resulting in the junk cars being left behind, and the train having less than 400 axles as it raced through Enfield, NS passing the approach signal to Sandy Cove.  120 lately has had a lot of empty well cars, and this one was no exception.  I'm not sure if there are a lot more imports that exports lately, or the cars are just going into storage in Halifax after the Christmas rush.

20 miles later, the three diesels on the head end (2248, 2130 and 5725) were easing onto the causeway at Moirs Mills with a relief crew waiting a mile or so ahead at Millview.  IC 2710 was the DPU this particular day.  The forward orientation of the Dash-9 is the exception rather than the rule.  The DPU often runs long hood first, and is then the leader on 121 that night, with no need for the roundhouse crew to use the turntable to turn any units.

Having shot CN 120 dozens and dozens times, I certainly can testify to the rarity of a forward-facing DPU on this train....

Love the composition of the consist in your first photo. You get the nice telephoto punch of the power and the stacks, then the singles and empties open up the shot to show the context better. Intended or not, it's a very nice result.
