Canadian Railroads > Quebec Ski Trains to the LaurentiansDate: 02/13/19 02:08 Quebec Ski Trains to the Laurentians Author: ghCBNS ExpoRail....the Canadian Rail Museum in Saint-Constant has a nice display of the Ski Trains that once ran on CP and CN into the Laurentian Mountains just north of Montreal.
Here’s one of the old CPR coaches you would have taken into the mountains: Date: 02/13/19 02:09 Re: Quebec Ski Trains to the Laurentians Author: ghCBNS Date: 02/13/19 02:16 Re: Quebec Ski Trains to the Laurentians Author: ghCBNS After returning to downtown Montreal from the Museum......I took an EXO (AMT) train 39 miles out to Saint-Jerome along the former CPR route the Ski Trains followed. The station there has been constructed in a ski-chalet style. Saint-Jerome is in the foothills but to continue north....you have to take the Laurentian AutoRoute (expressway) that has been built on portions of the long abandoned CNR right-of-way.

On my first few attempts to visit (years ago) I discovered that they had just closed for the season after Labour Day. It looks like I will be in Montreal next weekend for a few days, and a visit would be in order if they are open. I haven't been there since the new pavilion opened. Looks like open on Fridays all year round too, which I believe is new. It's convenient to take the commuter train there from downtown on weekdays (no weekend service unfortunately however). https://www.exporail.org/en/top-menu/schedule-and-admission-fee/ Michael Date: 02/13/19 15:44 Re: Quebec Ski Trains to the Laurentians Author: joemvcnj On weekday, there is one reverse peak train in either direction that makes an Exporail trip possible.I did that in 2015.
Otherwise, for public transit, you have to mess around with a couple of RTM suburban buses from Longeuile I believe. Not knowing a word of French, I'd be hesitant to make such an adventure, or how the OPUS card would be loaded for and work on other carriers besides STM. |
