Canadian Railroads > New Oshawa VIA - GO StationDate: 02/15/19 01:33 New Oshawa VIA - GO Station Author: ghCBNS Here's the new Oshawa, Ontario VIA - GO Station which replaced a much smaller building. (The overhead track access structure has been used for a several years now)

Do you know if it's elevator-only to get to the bridge or are there escalators, too? Date: 02/15/19 06:14 Re: New Oshawa VIA - GO Station Author: DrawingroomA chrisk_yyz Wrote:

I have not seen any escalators, just elevators and a long stairway. I hope the covered passageway is now open between the station and the building that provides access to the tracks. When I last used this station - November I think - we had to go out the GO side of the station and walk through mud to get to it. This spacious station is a vast improvement on the tiny station it replaced. Date: 02/15/19 06:27 Re: New Oshawa VIA - GO Station Author: chrisk_yyz DrawingroomA Wrote:

I'm curious why they didn't tunnel instead - it would require fewer steps than having to build this elevated structure above clearances for current train activities. Perhaps with the cost of tunneling it would have been a wash cost-wise. The gawdawful GO/VIA station at Aldershot has long dank concrete tunnels, along with long stairwells. It is so bad, I haven't used it in a couple of years. Will MacKenzie Dundas, ON |
