Canadian Railroads > Update to Late Via #2Date: 02/16/19 13:34 Update to Late Via #2 Author: WP17 Continuing the post from yesterday, we have just arrived in Jasper about 2pm local time some 6 hours late.
But we are not the only pssenger train in the station. A very very very late #1 is in the station being serviced and we waiting to back into the station once #1 leaves. So how late is #1. scheduled departure time is 19:30 FRIDAY. WP17 Photos to follow soon Date: 02/16/19 13:53 Re: Update to Late Via #2 Author: andersonb109 21 hrs. according to transitdocs. Even if they left Toronto 11 hours late, how the hell can they be 21 hours late given the 12 hours recently added to the schedule on top of all the additional time added years ago when they went to the four night out schedule (now often 5 nights).
When is VIA management or the Canadian government going to start holding CN accountable to their actions. VIA is a customer of CN and deserves to be treated better. The schedule can be achieved as was the case of the Moonlighter's train last year. And that was on the old schedule. Geez, what a way to run a business. I'm not a Canadian citizen or taxpayer. I doubt if Anderson109 is either. Date: 02/16/19 15:27 Re: Update to Late Via #2 Author: andersonb109 While I'm not a Canadian citizen, I am a frequent paying passenger on the train and expect the hose railroad CN to provide an acceptable level of service. While in this case, it was VIA's problem with locomotive issues, seeing the train regularly 12 to 20hrs. late isn't due to some accident. itIs deliberate shoddy treatment by the host railroad. Why they continue to runs more trains than they have capacity for is beyond me.

It is an indicator of poor freight transportation by CN, which does affect your economy, commerce, and corporate well being of shippers. No it's not. CN keeps the freight moving, and since a 10.000 foot freight train fits in less sidings then a passenger train, the VIA service gets lower priority. The company I work for uses both CN and CP to ship product, and they make an excellent profit without complaint of customer service. -Trevor Date: 02/17/19 12:03 Re: Update to Late Via #2 Author: WP17 viatrainrider Wrote:

I doubt that the derailment impacted us any more or less than the large number of CN freights that have come by in both directions. We were told that CN is opening the line early this afternoon so that should ensure we eventually get to Winnipeg. We recently departed our long stay at Ryley AB, after waiting for engine recrewing. Not sure how far we will get before we have to wait for more westbounds. WP17 Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 02/17/19 12:15 by WP17. Since some sidings don't fit their long trains, they spend hours breaking them up on two sidings for passing meets with other monster freight trains and putting them back together. https://www.producer.com/2019/01/freight-embargoes-were-necessary-justified-cn/ https://globalnews.ca/news/4873508/canadian-railways-congestion/ Edited 1 time(s). This is needed more for general fluiduty of the railroad, not the two day a week Canadian passenger train or the three day a week Skeena (train to Prince Rupert).

Date: 02/19/19 12:30 Re: Update to Late Via #2 Author: tomdoyle409 Train # 1 of Saturday (2/16) is currently running 24 +/- hours late, which would put its arrival into Vancouver at 18:00 on Thursday the 21st. If this were to hold, would the 18 hours between arrival and departure as # 2 on Friday the 22nd, be sufficient to service and turn the train, and for the crew to have adequate rest time?
