VIA’s w/b Ocean #15 hit debris on the track yesterday afternoon at Belmont NS shortly after leaving Truro. Train was annulled. There was damage to the locomotive causing a fuel leak and also broken windows but no injuries.

This was a Renaissance consist that would have arrived in Montreal this morning (Thursday Mar 21) and returned e/b to Halifax as #14 on Friday evening. Looking at ReserVIA that train is now showing as a Budd consist. (and easy to tell.....if Upper and Lower Berths are available it’s a Budd)

It's a Budd! VIA likely saw an issue in getting the Renaissance consist from Truro back to Montreal (Friday) and then turned to become outbound from Montreal Friday evening, March 23rd. Report mentions broken windows so they likely need to check the entire consist out, and since the cars are semi-permanently connected.......makes it a longer process.

What's interesting is that Montreal has a Budd consist available to swap out in such quick notice. Granted it, the cars are likely Chateau oriented, but that will work! Montreal can have a backup Budd consist, but Toronto doesn't for the Canadian? Interesting. Montreal should have a full third set Renaissance consist complete with diner and sleepers for substitution if necessary, but somehow that trainset is MIA. When the Ocean was operating six days a week, it required three trainsets, and those trainset often swelled to 8 sleepers per consist.   

The next round-trip - ex-Montreal on Wed. 27th and ex-Halifax on Friday the 29th - is now showing as a Budd consist.
