MLW Monday
Author: moonliter

This week's edition featuring,

Photo 1:
The roundhouse is still in use but its days are numbered.  S-2 7016 (ALCO 1944) watches RS-18 8773 (MLW 1958) do all the work!   Smiths Falls, ON  June 1979.

Photo 2:
Local switching crew take a break before resuming their day.  S-4 8188 (MLW 1957) is parked on the former Central Vermont side of St Jean's station.  The tracks at one time (until 11/55) continued east (to the right) over the Richelieu River then headed south via St Armand, QC to the Vermont border.  St Jean, QC is also one of the end points of Canada's 1st railway which opened in 1836.

Photo 3:
After combining VIA trains No.43 "Capital" and No.53 "Lakeshore", FPA-4 6783 (MLW 1958) accelerates its train out of Brockville, ON, next stop will Gananoque, ON.

Quite the train in photo 3 for only 1 FPA-4  and 1 FPB-4.

Love 'em all, Gerry! Unless I miss my guess, the Brockville shot looks like the classic "sunny" southern Ontario summer day, with dreadful humidity and those leaden skies. Yuck! I'll take a miserable Alberta Monday any day!

Brings back great memories of the few precious times that I visited the Canadian roads in that area and around Montreal.  Canada was nirvana to railfans growing up in the Northeast USA back then.
