Canadian Railroads > MLW Monday The Lakehead EditionDate: 04/29/19 11:08 MLW Monday The Lakehead Edition Author: moonliter Today's edition of MLW Monday is from "The Lakehead". The city's real name is Thunder Bay, ON was created in 1970 with the amalgamation of Port Arthur and Fort William. Because of its location on Lake Superior the city has a huge rail, marine and road infrastructure.
Photo 1: CP 7038 is an ALCO S-2 (Blt:1946) with AAR Type "A" trucks, somewhere down the line 7038 lost its "Blunt" trucks. I also tried to find out some information on the enginehouse but no luck. Aug 17th, 1982 Thunder Bay ON. Photo 2: One ALCO and one MLW in the foreground? Both products are from MLW. B103 is a booster built in 1957. CP had 73 S-2 locomotives, 53 of which were built by ALCO, 7083 is one of twenty S-2s (7076-7095) built by MLW in 1948/49. Aug 17th, 1982 Thunder Bay, ON. Photo 3: FPA-4 6776 (MLW 1959) on the point of No.2, VIA's Canadian. By 1982 CP Rail still had a few MLWs scattered over the west, mostly switchers, CN basically none and VIA the odd time. This is the only time that I caught a VIA MLW west of Sudbury. Post November 15th,1981 when the Canadian ran Montreal, Kingston, Toronto, Sudbury I never witness MLWs on the point. I was trackside on this summer morning to see P.E.Trudeau's train heading back to Upper Canada. This was days after Pierre's one-finger salute in Salmon Arm, BC. The Tuduea & sons' two Hawker-Slddeley cars are behind the baggage-dorm, they were built in Fort William, ON in 1967 Mile 130.1 Nipigon sub.
