GO'ing to Aurora
Author: ghCBNS

The Newmarket Subdivision (former Northern Railway/Grand Trunk/CN) was used by VIA’s Canadian until the mid ‘90s when the portion between Barrie and Longford (south of Washago) was abandoned. Today GO Transit operates from Union Station in Toronto as far a Barrie (Allandale Waterfront) 64 miles....with additional daytime runs to Aurora, 30 miles out and an easy two hour roundtrip.

These images are from the early 1990's , and I am amazed at the urbanization north of Toronto since then.

Maple was a quiet little village.

My parents retired to Richmond Hill ON where they spend their final years. In the 1980', Richmond Hill was going through the same transition from county town to northern suburb.
