Some cool power on BC Rail
Author: loleta

BC Rail power leading a train warrants a chase: here's BCOL 4652 with train 571 out of Squamish:
1. Putting the train together in Squamish yard.
2. Underway at Brackendale, a few miles out of town.
3. North of Garibaldi.

4. Pulling into the siding at Mcguire for a meet with 570.
5. Then there's this: first time I've seen a CN GP9 around here. It was supposed to have been dropped off 300 miles north in Quesnel the day before, but took a trip to Squamish and back instead.
6. After the meet, train 570 waits at the Daisy Lake crossing for a relief crew.

Nice to see BC Rail on BC Rail.  Image 5, that GP9 sure is dwarfed by the other unit.

Happy day, for sure; your vertical really uses the window of light between tree shadows nicely. In the first shot, what's the function of the offset framework in the gondola? It looks like too short a car to handle a prefab panel track turnout.

In the US I've seen that design for carrying steel panels that are too wide for clearance if flat. Brandywine Valley Railroad (BVRY) near a Coatesville, PA steel mill has a bunch, and I've seen some labeled for a steel railroad in the northern Indiana region, next to those steel mills.

It most likely is for transporting prefab turnouts. They're not shipped as one piece but are shipped in two or three pieces and assembled on site where any adjustments and/or modifications can be made.

Having just returned from a wonderful Canadian odyssey on the Canadian, I was really impressed with the fabulous range of scenery only viewable by rail. Your first photo really captures the “depth” of the scenery particularly with the train in the foreground. The sheer scale is fabulous.

Thanks for the post,
