LED Searchlight signals
Author: zorz

Hey all, I've noticed that there are a few instances of LED searchlight signals in various areas of Canada, most notably CN lines in Ontario and the Cartier in Quebec has some as well.

Anyone have some good close-up pictures or videos? I'm investigating modeling some of them and want to get some better shots, which are hard to come by via Google.

Thanks!

It actually got me thinking about new ways to design signals - thanks for that. I’m doing my own signal system for my layout and am going to use that, but also need other prototypical photos to best model them.

LED Searchlight signals have caused at least one accident that I can remember.
The old incandescent bulbs provided sufficient heat to melt snow off the lens.  LEDs produce minimal heat.
As a result the signal was blanked out and crew were lost in the blizzard.
