Canada's Newest Rail Line
Author: CNStratford

Recently there have been several posts on Trainorders about the Mascouche line east of Montreal.
Here is the schedule which seems to be in French only.  https://exo.quebec/Media/Default/z/lignes/train/TRAINS/MA/exo5-20190521_21001231.pdf
A Mascouche bound train departs from Central Station through the three mile long tunnel under Mount Royal using the electrical overhead wires on CN's Deux-Montagnes Subdivision.
At East Junction the train turns onto CN's St. Laurent Subdivision.  At Ahuntsic station, the crew are warned to switch from overhead electricity to diesel-electric power.
The train continues on the CN Joliette  Sub to Repentigny.
The newest track in Canada completed in 2014 was built between Repentigny to Terrebonne and then to Mascouche which is on the former CPR(now Quebec and Gatineau) Trois-Rivieres Subdivision.
This line has two interesting components.  Since it goes though the General Dynamics Munitions plant, the track is protected by a blast fence for about one mile.
The other interesting part is that the new line operates in the centre strip of the Quebec Autoroute 40.

Picture 3 - As mentioned in other Trainorders posts, the Mount Royal tunnel is to close to switch from heavy rail to light rail.  The poster asks the question "What is going to happen in January 2020?"  The picture also gives an indication of the route.

Picture 1 - Westbound train moves onto centre strip of Autoroute 40
Picture 2 - Train moves off centre strip.  While on the strip the train exceeded the speed limit imposed on the paralleling vehicles.
Picture 3 - It is difficult to get a picture of the blast fence - it is possible to see it well in a Google Maps Satellite photo.

The map is however out of date.  In summer 2020 these trains will be able to access Central Station directly as they will be routed through Tachereau yard and then on to downtown Montreal.  They have to build an additional siding to accomplish this.  Why it took so long to figure this out is beyond me!

So are they going to stub-end Central Station and abandon the tunnel??? Or is this only "temporary" while they repair the bore?

Central Station will be just a stop on the new Montreal REM - Light rail line.
