Interesting to see a CN unit with dynamic brake. I think the first 7 or 8 SD40's that CN bought had dynamic brake, although I'm not sure if it was operative.

When I visited Jasper in 1972, the DB equipped SD40's were gathered around the shop. I was told they were used on the steeply graded route from Swan Landing east of Jasper to the coal mines north of there at Winniandy.

It is correct that the first sd-40s  came with  dynamic braking . The rest of that first order up to  about 5100 came without but all  units after that up to the late 5300 came with dynamics

Gorgeous shot, and of course you realize, looking at those teeny little saplings in the foreground, that this shot must be impossible by now.
