A link to the story about the VIA cancellation between Prince George and Prince Rupert.
Within this is a link to a story from a northern newspaper about the derailment ...

Not much luck with VIA's remote western trains lately as the Hudson Bay went on the ground last week. Is it just me, or does CN seem to have more derailments than it's U.S. counterparts? Or are they just reported more frequently here?

Remember Harrison-CN was the first Precision Scheduled railroad he ran, sweat the assets.
The Grimsby sub where I live has not seen a major tie and rail replacement program for 15 years.
Run the hell out of everything, don't do any maintenance and of course your operating ratio will go down.
Dangerous in my mind if your flying down the Grimsby on Via 97 at 60 mph..

Mike, capex (including track maintenance) is not included in the operating ratio calculation.

I tend to agree with you Mike ... There is too much focus on what the financial markets want and not enough focus on long-term finacial viability and safety!

Not sure what CAPEX is MP403 but when Claude Mongeau took over from Harrison he said there was 1.75 Billion in deferred maintenance.
As Will said way too much concentrated on financial metrics. Wick Moorman himself asked the question at NS regarding operating ratios- HOW low is too low !
IMHO the railroads are going to low - 737 Max on rails !
