General Motors Diesel Opening - 70 years ago
Author: CNStratford

When General Motors Diesel opened their plant in London Ontario in 1950, they had a special Open House. My Dad drove us over from Stratford to attend it. One of the treats was a handout of special postcards. Here is a postcard of the first diesel locomotive totally built in Canada.

Thank you. That's a great paint scheme, but likely a pain to keep clean.

Any chance this loco was preserved?

Unfortunately #71 was destroyed and scrapped in a crossing incident.

When did Ontario start bending the V handrails seen on so many Canadian GPs?

TH&B 71 and two other GP7's at CP's Agincourt yard near Toronto in 1979.
Note tiny fuel tanks. 77 and 74 have three tone horns, 71 appears to have single tone horns.

They have the basic 800 US Gallon fuel tanks. Anything bigger was an extra cost option.
