Canadian Railroads > REM ProgressDate: 01/25/20 15:50 REM Progress Author: Ray_Murphy This photo shows today’s VIA #15 crossing the Lachine Canal as it arrives in Montreal. Behind it is the completed REM (light-rail) bridge across the canal and the elevated structures under construction for the REM’s Bridge/Wellington station.
The REM tracks will use the Mount Royal tunnel and the CN viaduct out of Central Station, but here they gain elevation as they will proceed on elevated pylons around the various Pointe-St-Charles shops on their way to the Samuel de Champlain bridge. Also visible at the right side of the picture is the former CN Wellington tower, now partly covered in metal mesh to deal with its falling stucco. Ray Edited 2 time(s). I was at the Edouard-Montpetit Metro (Subway) Station a couple of weeks ago where this crane is sinking a shaft for high-speed elevators...down 20 stories below the Metro to where platforms for the REM will be inserted into the former CN Mount Royal Tunnel line. Station cut-away view here: https://rem.info/en/news/excavation-edouard-montpetit . Date: 01/26/20 10:26 Re: REM Progress Author: PHall 20 stories non-stop? That should be one heck of a ride!

The CN Tower is a good example and that's a lot higher then 20 stories! And most high rise buildings are like that: Some elevators only serve certain floors so the fist stop might not be until the 40th and above! |
