Are CN or CP 3800 Covered Hoppers in service?
Author: inCHI

I'm considering getting an HO scale Rapido model of a 3800 cu. ft. covered hopper, and I'm most interested in a CN or CP car. Does anyone know if either railroad still has them in service? If not, is there a secondhand owner that has patched them? So far I've found almost no photos of CP cars past 2012. I've found a few more of CN cars in the 2010-present range, but barely anything in last last 2 years. I found some ex-CN cars repatched to BAGX and WREX in the mid-2010's. Any info on other CN/CP cars is appreciated.

Can't remember off the top of my head which exact cars you're researching, but here's a good resource for Canadian freight cars. Basically summarized information from the ORER with in-service dates accurate to last year. Linked to the CP page but CN and private owners are on the site as well.

CN still has quite a few of their mid-70s built 3800s in service, in the brown paint scheme. They’re used often as buffer cars on the oil trains.

Thanks for the link and the current info! I'll look into that. The cars are the cynlindrical covered hoppers made in the 60'-70's with a smaller size than the common ones for grain or wheat. That website looks like an excellent resource.
