Canadian Railroads > Railway workers safety at risk between police and protestersDate: 02/26/20 09:53 Railway workers safety at risk between police and protesters Author: Marcus Police recently removed protesters from CN's Toronto to Montreal main line
at Tyendinaga, near Belleville, Ontario. However, a protest camp remains on one side of the tracks and a large police presence on the other side of the tracks. CN has begun to send freight trains through Tyendingaga. As one train approached, protesters were seen between the tracks throwing rocks at the approaching train. Others were placing branches on the tracks in front of the train. One was seen carrying a gas can trackside. As a second train passed, burning pallets were thrown at the passing train. Surely railway employees cannot be forced to work in such conditions. What is there in the Collective Agreement and/or the Canadian Labour Code to address this situation ? https://globalnews.ca/news/6597465/rail-blockades-canada-travel-protests/ Edited 1 time(s). Sounds like a pretty simple solution. Might keep others from following this illegal behavior.

IMHO-Ross Rowland Date: 02/26/20 12:19 Re: Railway workers safety at risk between police and protesters Author: DrawingroomA I wonder if this is why VIA keeps pushing back the resumption of service on the Toronto - Montreal/Ottawa route. A few days ago trains were expected to start on Friday. Two days ago that was changed to Saturday and yesterday it was changed again to Sunday the 1st of March.

The mohawk warriors, if they become involved, are not the type of protest er that has been active so far.... ( mohawk warriors were involved in oka, ipperwash and caledonia). Mohawk warriors at the remaining blockage near montreal, even dispute the authority of the quebec provincial police to be on reserve land. Quebec police entering that reserve could trigger a major incident like oka. See ctv montreal home page for further info on this blockade. The mohawk warriors at tyendinaga have not been public involved in the blockade there. Should they become involved, the situation could become very serious very quickly. The cn line only passes through a short stretch (300m) of tyendinaga mohawk territory. Mostly of the cn line near the reserve is any where from 200m to 500m north of mohawk territory. If there was a new blockade and it was on mohawk territory, it would take a major police+ operation to dismantle..... Provincial and federal legislation allows employees to refuse dangerous work. The likely outcome is that cn would use management employees to run trains through the area Posted from Android Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 02/26/20 13:27 by dxm332. The mohawk warriors, historically, have aggressively taken all possible measures to defend their territory The quebec premier is playing a dangerous political game, like he always does. First nation vs quebec relations are very poor... Posted from Android Date: 02/26/20 15:05 Re: Railway workers safety at risk between police and protesters Author: DrawingroomA VIA has just updated their advisory to show that trains on the Toronto - Montreal/Ottawa corridor will not resume until Monday the 2nd of March. This is the third postponement of the resumption of this service.

Classic guerrilla warfare tactics. Date: 02/27/20 04:30 Re: Railway workers safety at risk between police and protesters Author: joemvcnj This looks like the start of a civil war. Civil wars generally turn violent. Remember who swung the first punch.

That is the heart of the problem. Separate "nations" should never have been allowed inside Canada or the US. Reap what you sow. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 02/28/20 12:17 by Duna.
