Advertising along tracks in Toronto
Author: rwullich

From a visit in the 1980's, I seem to recall that there was advertsing along the VIA/GO tracks west of Union Station.  The advertising (Corproate names/logos) were done with either stone or flowers/hedges.  Does anyone have photos or additional information?  When did it go away or is it still there?  Did VIA or GO use this as a revenue source or how was it decided which one's were used?

Many thanks in advance.
Roy

I know of some west of downtown Toronto that are still there today where the tracks parallel the Gardiner Expressway.  Go to Google and search these coordinates: 43.635011, -79.439342 to see them from the Gardiner.

My understanding is that this space was owned by CN, and they derived some income from it.  The Google Earth image still shows a prominent CN noodle, along with GO's logo.  GO (Metrolinx) now owns that track, but it wouldn't surprise me if CN has retained the adjacent land.
