Wreck Wednesday
Author: hoggerdoug

April 1985 at mile 349 on BC Rail. North bound encountered a washout, lead units got by and a bunch of loaded chip cars derailed. From what I recall, the Dept. of Highways removed a beaver dam blocking a culvert on the road above the tracks. The ensuing torrent of water overwhelmed the culvert under the railway roadbed causing soft track and a washout. I took these images from below on Hwy 97, showing the precarious position of the derailment on the hillside, power lines and a major highway.

July 1978 near mile 407 on the BCR Prince George sub. I've forgotten details of this episode, no injuries.

October 1979, a train pulling into Williams Lake BC, piled up quite well. The staff in the yard office had a front row seat as this enfolded right in front of them. sure tied up yard operations for awhile. Cause was a badly skidded wheel picking a switch point all at slow speed. Fortunately there were no injuries.

thanks for looking.
