Late in the Day

So far this year I haven't been able to get a shot of 121 leaving Halifax at the classic Moirs Mill location.  With Rockingham Yard being managed remotely from Moncton, the trains have just been too slow getting made up to meet the 20:30 nominal departure time, or on the rare occasion that they have, the weather hasn't cooperated.  The closest I've come was on June 15 at Birch Cove, just a mile west of the Rockingham Yard office.  In the first image, taken just before 20:00, 519's two GP9s, 4135 and 4115, are hauling a string of double-stacks out of the H-yard on the transfer track, before shoving it down the back of the yard to the Ceres container terminal in the north end of Halifax.  In the second frame, they've pulled pulled onto the curved fill that often figures prominently in pictures of the arriving 120.

15 minutes later, ET44AC 3275 (and ES44AC 2972, hidden behind it), is on the main line, hauling the second cut of cars out of the G-yard, for what will be a shorter than usual 121.
