Canadian Railroads > 10 Years Ago Today on the CBNSDate: 07/04/20 07:03 10 Years Ago Today on the CBNS Author: cn6218 Cape Breton & Central Nova Scotia Railway was running their regular daily freight trains between Stellarton and Havre Boucher in northern Nova Scotia on the fourth of July, ten years ago. With only one locomotive on the roster actually owned, rather than leased, it wasn't unusual to have nothing but leasers, many in their original owners' paint, powering the train. From front to back on 306 at Tracadie were HLCX 8151 (née BN EMD SD40-2, same number), LLPX 2269 (former IC 3100-series GP40), HLCX 7172 (née BN GMD SD40-2, same number), LLPX 1506 (née Conrail GP15-1 1686) and LLPX 1508 (née Conrail GP15-1 1604). Today, all these diesels except 2269 are still on the roster, but owned by parent G&W, and all of those are now in the corporate orange and yellow paint
On the return trip, the power stayed together in reverse order. They're shown here with 1508 doubling the train together near the west cautionary limits of Havre Boucher. The ex-Devco coal hoppers on the head end were destined for the NSPI generating station in Trenton, and would be dropped in the siding at New Glasgow to be delivered by the local the next day.
