Canadian Railroads > Calif. boys go East, 1986 Part 6: Newtonville, OntarioDate: 09/26/20 15:14 Calif. boys go East, 1986 Part 6: Newtonville, Ontario Author: AlcoRSD15 This saga is continued from the Nostalgia & History board. In October 1986, a bunch of us San Francisco Bay Area railfans went east to New York, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and Ontario in search of Alcos, MLWs, F units and other stuff that we couldn’t see in California.
After railfanning around Binghamton, NY and foaming Conrail’s Boston & Albany line (see previous posts), we headed to Ontario. On October 18, we met fellow “Berkeley Gang” member Brad at Bayview Junction. After catching a few trains there, we spent the afternoon at Newtonville, Ontario, about 90 km east of Toronto. Here the CN and CP mainlines from Toronto to Montreal are in close proximity to each other. The two overpasses of Newtonville Road are great places from which to photograph trains. Soon after we arrived, we got a running meet with an eastbound CN (9518-9431-2011) and a westbound VIA train with FPA4 6770 on the point! Some well-placed gondolas allowed me to get a shot of the 6770. - Eric Blasko Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 09/26/20 17:54 by AlcoRSD15. Date: 09/26/20 15:16 Re: Calif. boys go East, 1986 Part 6: Newtonville, Ontario Author: AlcoRSD15 Next up was an eastbound on the CP line, with a colorful combo of CP5934-Chessie3731-Chessie3717-B&O3729. Apparently CP was leasing a bunch of GPs from the Chessie System at this time. Third photo: Graffiti on the bridge over the CN tracks.

In the second and third photos, the single track CP line is visible in the distance at the right.

While we were hanging out at Newtonville, Gary Zuters showed up, who was very knowledgeable and gave us a lot of tips on where to watch trains around Toronto. - Eric B.

I really like the picture with "if you voted for Trudeau" My thought for these times would be to take Trudeau off and insert "Trump" LOL... Lets hope you know who doesn't see this and gets bent out of shape...LOL... Well past the eastern end of tracks in Concord at that time!

Date: 09/30/20 06:10 Re: Calif. boys go East, 1986 Part 6: Newtonville, Ontario Author: Goldie It was there last year. The wooden bridges ( there were two that spanned the CNR and CPR) at Nichols Road are gone.
