CN Heritage Locos go into service: BC Rail loco seen leading
Author: Marcus

Trains.com has reported that a number of CN's heritage units have entered service,
including CN 3115 in a BC Rail tribute paint scheme.

Looks like the Hockey Stick scheme, interesting choice. Kinda bright, needs some weathering...
Great that CN has put so much emphasis on Heritage schemes.

I got a message from Montreal this morning that 3115 (BC Rail hockey stick) was leading 120 this morning.  Should arrive in Halifax tomorrow (Tuesday) morning, although I won't be home to see it.  Hopefully I'll get it coming back on Wednesday.

Intereresting that CN would send the BC Rail hockey stick locomotive to Halifax rather than to B.C.  What's the thinking?  Perhaps there isn't any.

It will also be interesting to see whether similar logic is used in the first deployments of the other heritage units.

Is there a train that goes from Halifax to Roberts Bank or Vancouver?

No.  Cross-country/continent trains to those B.C. destinations originate in Montreal, Toronto, Detroit, Chicago, Memphis.

The big 25th anniversary that these units are commemorating is tomorrow, November 17.

The last BCR green paint scheme would be perfect for a CN BCR heritage unit.

You'll be pleasantly surprised then -- such a unit is planned.

Nope. CN has stated they will only have the 5 units, which are now all released for system service.

Where is this stated?  The news release refers to these units as representing the railways acquired since the IPO, but that doesn't necessarily rule out others.  The GP40-3/slug combos from Progress Rail are one example aside from these five.

What is the status of the illustration that has been making the rounds with numerous designs depicted?  I've attached it here.  Was this just railfan dreaming?

Yes, dreaming.
For instance, the BC Rail scheme depicted does not match the one on the road.

What was the source of your illistration?

It had been making the rounds and I received it from several other fans. I don't know the source and it could have originated with someone with a lot of time on their hands for Photoshopping. As I said, perhaps just railfan dreaming.

That image is, AFAIK, MS Paint-colored drawings of locomotives sourced from http://trainiax.net/ . It's railfans doing what they do best about this stuff, having overblown expectations and wanting literally every conceivable railroad represented, making the final actual results less impressive than they actually are.

The fact that 5 of these got painted is remarkable in of itself, railfans screaming for their favorite to be represented is wishful thinking and really frustrating to watch.

-There's a Trains magazine online article (www.trains.com) that has a quote from CN stating the 5 units will be the only ones planned. The drawing that curculated was created from an early list that was not official from CN.
