MLW Monday
Author: briancdn

Yes it's me again, with more boring RS-18's. But it's my party and......

Aug 1983, and I'm at Newport, VT as a freight prepares to leave for Farnham, with the then standard power of 5 RS-18's. They made a fantastic sight and sound as they notched up to leave the yard. Newport hill lies ahead, and they'd need all that horsepower to make it up the grade. RS18u's are becoming more common as the RS-18's are rebuilt.

1) The power ready to go

2) Easing out of the yard. The bridge to the left is the old Quebec Central.

3) Crossing the Mississquoi river at North Troy, VT, soon to cross the border into Highwater, Quebec.

MLW C-424's started to be used more and more on the Newport to Farnham run.

Aug 1983 and a sad day for me, as it spelled the end for my favourite engines, the Alco built RS-2's. Here three of the five Alcos are stored, with their replacement looking on in the form of an RS-18u. The other two were also here, along with four S-2's.

When I was there, a mechanic from the Lamoille Vally was inspecting 8404, which was still in excellent shape, as were all the well maintained Alco's. He said that CP's price was just too high, and they wouldn't come down even a dollar. Would have been nice to see 8404 in yellow and green! But alas, it was not to be.

Not to be a nit-picker, but I do have a nit to pick with you.
You are totally in error.
