Canadian Railroads > SD70M-2s on the Nova Scotia Gypsum TrainsDate: 02/24/21 06:47 SD70M-2s on the Nova Scotia Gypsum Trains Author: cn6218 For the past few weeks, 511, the daily gypsum turn between Wrights Cove and Milford has had an SD70M-2 on the east end of the consist and a Dash-9 on the west end. It hasn't always been the same one, they seem to change on a weekly basis. Two weeks ago it was 8825, last week was 8930, and this week it changed to 8933.
On February 10, 2021 8825 was leading the loaded train in Windsor Jct., nearing MP 17 of the Bedford Sub. The next day I caught them crossing the through truss bridge over Nine Mile River in Elmsdale, NS. Later that afternoon, 8825 and 2582 were shoving the 60+ loaded cars into the plant at Wrights Cove. The crew gets permission as part of their OCS clearance to leave the mainline switch at 10.1 lined and locked in the reverse position. There are a group of these units moving loaded taconite trains on the former B&LE down here in PA nowadays. For whatever reason, I think the CN paint scheme looks especially sharp on the SD70M-2 body.
