Atlantic ? arriving Montreal
Author: gcm

Dec 82
I had just flown in to Montreal and took a cab down to Central Station (I was riding the Canadian later).
Walking around the station - difficult to find photo spots because of the elevated trackage.
I found this obstructed spot just as a train was arriving - maybe the Atlantic ?
Observation Glacier Park brought up the rear.

Interesting photo.  My question is, "Would have Via operated a leased CN RS-18 over CP lines that ran through the State of Maine?  Were not the fuel and water couplings different on CN locomotives from those on CP Rail units.  I would imagine that fuel and water would have been needed somewhere between Lennoxville, QC and Saint John, NB. (I don't know as I would have been cutting ZZZs across Maine.)

If it was December 1982, it wasn't the Atlantic.  The train was discontinued at the end of 1981, and didn't come back until June of 1985.

Could it have been the overnight corridor train?  I don't think the Ocean had Park cars back then either.

My first respose was suggesting that the train was not the "Atlantic" because of the CN RS-18.  An email from my friend Tom Box who only sees the thumbnails, said it looked like No. 2.  Looking at the photo once again and noticing the sun is in the west I'm inclided to agree with Tom.  Back in 1982 VIA's train No.2 was combined with trains 44/54.  This train was scheduled to arrive in Montreal at 15:10 so the lighting does look correct for a late fall photo.
