Last Friday at Grand Lake, NS
Author: cn6218

I posted some pictures of the ex-CREX leasers on the gypsum train last week, Ex-Leasers in Sunshine (trainorders.com) , but those were the first and last pictures of the morning.  In between there was quite a lot of action for about an hour or so.

511 (the gypsum train) went into the siding at Sandy Cove (mile 27) to meet 120, which went through the construction site at mile 26 at 10:22.  With all the AC locomotives that CN has now, it's a bit unusual to see three older DC units on the head end of CN's priority train in the Maritimes.  The power was 2343, 2201 and 2306, with 2305 as the DPU.

With 120 out of the way, 511 was able to continue west to the mine at mile 36.6, and get off the main line there.  That allowed 515, the Truro local, which had been waiting at Milford after picking up some empty covered hoppers, to head east to Sandy Cove siding.   GP38-2W 4807 is shown here at 11:11, entering the siding to run around the train before heading back to Truro.  I'm not 100% sure, but I think these cars carry fly ash for the Shaw brick works in Lantz.

As 515 was coming to a stop in the siding, 407, which had followed 511 out of Dartmouth and had waited for 120 at Windsor Jct., was coming up the main line, also heading for Truro.  The timing was good, and they saw the stop signal at the west end of the siding turn to clear as they continued on with 2671, 2714, 4765 and about 30 autoracks at 11:14.
