Trains involved are intermodal 149 (montreal??? To chicago,3046 plus a second unit) and local 532 (brockville to Cornwall local with an ic gp38 and a cn gp38w)
The power on the local has, per photos, been substantially damaged, and is in the ditch. The intermodal trains 2 units appears much less damaged and are more or less upright on the right of way.

The trackage at the collision site is ctc controlled, so something went drastically wrong
*** update**
Based on pictures posted by a local resident, the collision occured where a siding joins the double tracked main line. The container train appears to have entered this siding and collided with the local.

Based on the damage to track and location of the derailed equipment, CN will be able to reopen the south track relativly quickly once the scene is released by the NSB.

Z149 had CN 3046-CN 3102. L532 had IC 9629-CN 4799.

9629 must have extraordinarily bad luck, considering its role in the infamous ICG wreck at Livingston, LA almost 40 years ago.

Good point… I’d forgotten ICG 9629 was the leader on GS2-28 on that fateful morning. It survived the Livingston derailment unscathed; this time, it wasn’t so lucky.

Judging by the amount of damage they weren't moving at Restricted speed.
