Canadian Railroads > Foggy LensesDate: 01/18/22 06:02 Foggy Lenses Author: cn6218 Moisture causing fog on lenses should not be a problem in the winter when humidity is usually close to zero. But on the East Coast, all bets are off.
I made the mistake of leaving my camera bag in the car overnight, and then going out to try and shoot a train the next morning. Normally I'd just have to be careful of my breath condensing on the camera, but in this case the frigid temperatures from the night before had risen to well above freezing, with fog hanging in the air, and condensing on the camera lens (which was still sub-zero) as quickly as I could wipe it off. I was able to salvage something from the first image here, as ES44AC 3805 led leased GP38-2 GMTX 2695 and train Z120 into the curve across Moirs Mills on the morning of January 5, but the going-away shot of CN's first AC unit, ES44AC 2800 as the tail end DPU, suffered a bit more.
