VIA's Sleeper Plus Discounts have returned
Author: DrawingroomA

VIA has restored the big discounts for sleepers - at the moment just for the Canadian. Obviously they are available only on certain dates when there are sufficient unsold berths/cabins to make this possible.

As before, these deals must be booked on-line and are non-refundable and non-exchangeable. Given that VIA has extended the no-fee cancellation policy until the end of June I don't know how this cancellation policy would work. Understandably VIA says they will deny boarding to people who have symptoms of illness, not  just COVID.

There are some very attractive sample fares:

Thanks DrawingroomA.  Question:  For example when the deal list WPG - Vancouver room for two at $1210, is that for two people or $1210 per per person?

That is per person. Single occupancy of a cabin for 2 has a 50% supplement as with regular fares.

Using the Discounted Rates (Cabin for 1 and Cabin for 2), and after considering the exchange rate, the Canadian's fare (Toronto to Vancouver) is very comparable to an Amtrak cross country travel price in bedroom or roomette for a singular traveler. I'll let folks here that have ridden both cross country LD Amtrak trains and the VIA's Canadian train to determine which train/service they'd rather be on for the amount of money spent. Amtrak has certainly BOOSTED and upped the sleeper car fares. VIA has too, but the "discount" option helps....
