Crews change at Fort Steele and Nelson. However, the crews swap eastbound and westbound trains at McConnel, Mile 55.4 of the Nelson Sub. The Nelson Sub. begins at Curzon, Mile 42.2, which is the junction with the Cranbrook Sub., and ends at Nelson, Mile 137.8)

The Nelson (Curzon to Nelson) and Columbia Subs. (Nelson to Trail/Warfield) are operated as an internal shortline called the Kootenay Valley Railway, which has its own collective agreements..A Nelson-based KVR crew will bring an eastbound train A18 to McConnel, and bring a westbound train A19 from there to Nelson.  The next day A19 Nelson to Trail and A18 Trail to Nelson is worked as a turn by one crew (one-way distance is 44.1 miles).

There is an extensive YT Video of the KVR showing just about every feature on the run from the Smelter at Trail to Nelson. They include some of the switching moves at Trail.

I just wish there was a part 2 from Nelson to at least Creston showing the very remote piece along Kootenai Lake!
