BCOL 709 leading train #23 in the siding at Crysdale BC. A sunny late afternoon June 1980.

Great portrait style photo.
Nice lighting and interesting subject on a sunny day. The carbody of the higher numbered M-630's were a no-nonsense slick, industrial design compared to the first four C-630M's that were Canadian built to the earlier ALCO design. At the time I could tell the difference between and MLW and a GMD locomotive but there's been plenty of time to study since then.

That's such an effective angle, Doug. A robot as third 'unit'?

Just spotted the omni-present 704 as the second unit. The big grill behind the cab has been cut down to half it's original size and is an example of the four locomotives built to the ALCO design. That Mod eems to be something the CN shops had figured out, it shows up on their locomotives as well. The CN could have been trying to reduces it's dry blowing snow interference, but I can't find anything about it.

BCR 702 and 704 seem to show up in photos quite often.

The four BCR C630M's where built by MLW with a simpler intake vs the CN and CP units of the same model.

Right.  Musch different than the CN/CP MLW C630M's which were basicly duplicates of the Alco C430/630's.
