Canadian Railroads > Uninspired, but at least they leave it to the Beaver

According to an article posted in today's Trains.com Newswire, CPKC employees will select the railway's new paint scheme through an on-line survey.  The survey will ask CPKC employees to select from one of five paint schemes.  Below is a link to the article which shows the five paint schemes.  I feel they are all uninspired, but view #1 as the least disappointing.  At least all five schemes will keep the CP logo which will leave it to the Beaver to continue the CP's heritage.

Glad I rode the Rocky Mountaineer last year for a last look at and ride on the pre-merger Canadian Pacific.

I think I agree with 5. The consultant who came up with these designs didn't earn their money.

What I want to know;  will it be CPKC RailROAD or CPKC RailWAY?

Or maybe just CPKC Rail. Actually, I would have called the merged railroad CPS (Canadian Pacific Southern). They go way beyond Kansas City. 

I would go with Option 1. All the rest look the same except for playing around or not with a yellow stripe.

CPKC is a bit of a tongue twister. I would have used a chicken logo and called it KFCP,

I like #3.

The black roof hides the inevitable exhaust grime that will build up there, and the yellow stripes on the nose help with grade crossing visibility (That's a mistake VIA made with the F40 rebuilds.).

Anybody want to place bets on how long it takes for "CPKC" to get shortened to just "CP"?  It will fit a lot better on the nose as "C:P".  It's been a long time since I heard anything about "CNIC".

I live thousands of miles from the Pacific Northwest and know what an orca is.

Option 1 isn't bad, but it looks inspired by the CN tuxedo scheme (CNNA), and that's not a good corporate idea. Option 5 is intriguing, but you really have to look closely to realize the separation lines around the red are the same shape as the old tuscan scheme, but repositioned. If the red was narrower, maybe ...

Both CP and KCS used RailWAY.

They never do. The Norfolk and Western paid a half million (1971) dollars to a design firm for the horrid "NW" logo. I could have provided them the same with Press Type (remember that, dry transfer lettering?) for about $2.00

CPKC is the personal choice of Keith Creel. It’s not going to be dropped while he's around.
 

How about Canadian Pacifico? Canadian Pacific Southern doesn't sound bad. Yes, the paint schemes don't look inspiring and don't do much to combine the heritage of both roads. I think CPKC sounds almost like a former soviet bloc country. If they put the eagle and the beaver on the same logo,  they can call it a spread eagle beaver... Vivi la beavila!
