Freight Car Friday - Shiny Scrap Gon, Fresh Cars, Pipe on Flats
Author: feclark

Just over a week ago I posted some action from the CN Wainwright Sub, at https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?15,5832349. Last Friday was some of the rolling stock from that day; here is some more. These five shots were taken on Friday, March 8.
1. National Steel Car in Hamilton has turned out a lot of very clean-looking scrap gons in the last few years, not looking like your old sway-backed 50 scrap gondola of the past. This one caught our eye in the consist of #317 at 1357, MP 180.6 east of Viking. It's SECX 2318, blt. 06-23. It has a capacity of 6400 cuft, ld lmt of 213,800 lbs, and lt wt of 72,200 lbs. That's almost 70 tons. I'll try to find links to some other NSC scrap gons I've posted in the last year and change, and paste them in here. From just over a year ago, https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?15,5606854,5606854#msg-5606854; from September, https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?15,5742487,5742487#msg-5742487.
2. In the same train, TTX had some clean boxcars. This one is TBOX 676782, a 60' double-plug door box that was built in 11-23 at a plant in Mexico, if the lettering is any indicator. I don't know who the builder might be.
3. Again from NSC, this clean 125t, 53' well car is DTTX 791522C. The load comprises 20' 22G1 containers FYCU 7076xx_x, which is apparently Pan Ocean Container Supplies, based in China, and Mediterranean Shipping MSMU 118839_4. The train is #118 at 1426, MP 178.8.

4. At Lindbrook earlier in the day, #401 came through at 0935, including these CN flats with pipe loads. This one is CN 668162, L 89-6, no other info I could glean. I notice this and the next one are lettered 'Uniform Loads Only', meaning it's to be spread out across the car, I guess (structural thing). I'm curious about the orange spray dots on the pipe, in contrast to the next load.
5. Following is CN 639920, same length and info. I'm guessing these are from different orders, based on the huge spread in their number series. Otherwise I'm not sure why they weren't in closer number series (even though this one appears to have been renumbered, or just cleaned up). Green is apparently the colour for marking this load of pipe. Any reasons suggested?
Thanks for looking,
Fred

I wouldn't expect those scrap gons to stay pretty for long. Scrap gons live a hard life.
