Canadian Railroads > New Switchers for Pace YardDate: 04/03/24 15:15 New Switchers for Pace Yard Author: cn6218 The previous pair of GP38-2s assigned to Pace Yard (former Rockingham Yard in Halifax), 4727 and 4774 stayed right until their inspections were due, before being replaced by a series of former-GMTX leasers and GP40-2Ls for a few days. But those were replaced in turn by this pair, 4802 and 4793, which have been here for a week or so now. That usually means they will be here until their inspections are due in 3 months or so. The pair of GP38-2Ws was at Birch Cove yesterday afternoon, with about half a mile of containers on behind as they switched cars from the G-yard onto the transfer track, where Z121 would pick them up before departing that night. Right behind the power was a somewhat unusual well car, with 40-48-48-48-40 ft. units. It's been a long time since I've seen a 48 ft. container, even though 45 footers are still used in export service. The car is also unusual in that it can't be used for 20 ft. containers. I guess the weight has to bear on the ends of each well, not the middle.
