Canadian Railroads > Wide angle at the JunctionDate: 04/28/24 12:07 Wide angle at the Junction Author: newtonville150 We went to Oxford Junction NS and there was a clear signal for CN L507 this morning
but the scene was badly backlit. So we backtracked Springhill Junction. My wife was none too pleased and wanted to know how long we'd have to wait. We must have been at Springhill Jct for close to an hour before I heard a defect detector go off. I assumed it was MP 53 (Salt Springs) so I rushed to my chosen spot on the Glooscap Trail bridge. However it must have been MP 42 (Thomson Station) as it was 25 minutes later and 507 was still a no-show. So I returned to the truck and almost immediately MP 53 went off with 186 axles. Thought I'd try a wider angle for a change (20 mm) which is at the wide end of a 18-70 mm zoom lens I seldom use. Although my camera has auto-focus I seldom use it, which is why I don't use this lens much. The focus ring is fiddly and very narrow. The best time to use it here is right now during stick season. All that remained was the mandatory stop at Tim's on the way home to placate the wife!
