Canadian Railroads > Morning Manifest in Truro, NSDate: 08/28/24 16:23 Morning Manifest in Truro, NS Author: cn6218 Dash-9s 2520 and 2546 were bracketing SD40-3 GTW 5951 as train 307 crept past the Truro, NS VIA station on February 21, 2005. At 08:00 this would have been my first shot of the day, and 307 would be backing into the Truro yard in a few minutes to pick up traffic from the CBNS to go to Moncton. This train has had a number of different numbers over the years. 300-series implies that it was an long distance train, although it terminated in Moncton. Later the 407 number was used, more appropriate for a regional train. Currently CN designates this job as L507, which somewhat oddly is a local number, but apparently that gives them more flexibility in the work that the crew can do.
This area was once a small yard used for interchange with the DAR and passenger trains going to and from Cape Breton. In 2005 the only CN structure still standing was the red building on the left, the Emerson Club, or CN Pensioners' Association. With 4 subdivisions converging there, Truro was once quite a railway town, but has been in steady decline for the last several decades. A few years ago the Emerson Club was razed, and the only reminder now is the switch to the yard (between the second and third autoracks), which is known to the crews as the "Emerson Switch". GTD |
